Did Michelle Obama really quote Saul Alinsky?

August 27th, 2008

Gateway Pundit examines elements of Michelle Obama’s speech:

What to make of Michelle Obama’s use the terms, “The world as it is” and “The world as it should be?” From whence do they originate? Try Chapter 2 of Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules for Radicals. In last night’s speech, Michelle Obama said something that peeked my curiousity. She said:

“Barack stood up that day,” talking about a visit to Chicago neighborhoods, “and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about “The world as it is” and “The world as it should be…”

And, “All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won’t do – that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be.”

Here’s an excerpt from Chapter 2 of Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules for Radicals:

“The means-and-ends moralists, constantly obsessed with the ethics of the means used by the Have-Nots against the Haves, should search themselves as to their real political position. In fact, they are passive — but real — allies of the Haves…The most unethical of all means is the non-use of any means… The standards of judgment must be rooted in the whys and wherefores of life as it is lived, the world as it is, not our wished-for fantasy of the world as it should be.

However, despite the connections between Barack Obama and Saul Alinsky’s philosophy, it is clear in this context that the ostensible intention behind Michelle’s use of this terminology is the inverse of Alinsky’s.

New Global Warming Consensus

May 29th, 2008

Michelle Malkin relays a story of painful irony in an eco-expedition.

“As for disappearing ice, tell it to the passengers of this Russian ship that got stuck in Arctic ice–while on an eco-expedition to show off the horrible effects of global warming on the environment.”

A new global warming consensus, known as the Petition Project, has 31,000+ scientists on record as saying that man-made climate change as no convincing scientific evidence in its support.

“There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”

They have a peer reviewed paper to support their claims. With 9,021 PhDs alone signing it, the project already includes 15-times more scientists than are seriously involved in the United Nations IPPC process. The very large number of petition signers demonstrates that, if there is a consensus among American scientists, it is in opposition to the human-caused global warming hypothesis rather than in favor of it.

The irony in the eco-expedition perhaps depicts the folly in so much legislation and enviro-litigation driven by the theory of and fears related to man-made climate change. With so much data contradicting it, as in the Petition Project for example, you would hope that leaders with some cooler heads would at least urge that legislation, litigation and policies driven by the theory be seriously reevaluated. Unfortunately, the motivation behind these initiatives seems to be more about power and control rather than truth in many cases.

Hillary Clinton: History of Lying since Watergate

April 2nd, 2008

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the judiciary committee when she worked on the Watergate investigation. When the investigation was over, he fired her.

“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”
