Jackson, Healthcare Reform, and the Race Card
“We even have blacks voting against the healthcare bill,” Jackson said at a reception Wednesday night. “You can’t vote against healthcare and call yourself a black man.”
- The Hill
Jackson gives reasons for why he makes this claim, including his observation that “it’s an issue that disproportionately impacts black folks.” He says that the poorest people need healthcare protection and that they’re dying from lack of access.
What he doesn’t take into account is how currently proposed legislation will not actually do very much to fix the problems in our healthcare system and that in fact, if passed, it would do incredible damage to our economy. As everyone knows, any downturn in the economy definitely adversely affects the poor.
This healthcare legislation as it is now in the House or in the Senate is exactly what the black community and America as a whole does not need.
